Guiding Principles
Our Principles Influence All Aspects of School Life:
Academic Rigor: Measurable Results We instil a tailored academic purpose for each student, continually challenging them across six learning goals: knowing how to learn, quantitative reasoning, empirical reasoning, social reasoning, communication skills, and socialisation.
Personalization: Tailored Learning for Each Student Collaborating with Advisory teachers and parents, each student develops a personalised learning plan that explores their interests, identifies goals, and incorporates authentic projects and broader curriculum requirements. Plans are regularly reviewed and updated.
Leaving to Learn: Practical Experiences in Internships Students engage in interest-based internships, benefiting from mentors within the community for intellectually rigorous real-world projects connected to their passion and tailored learning goals.
Authentic Assessment Termly, students present portfolios to a panel, including the Advisory teacher, family, peers, mentors, and community members. They showcase progress against learning goals and reflect on their learning process.
Design for Learning
Collaboration for Learning Students work in one-on-one or small group learning environments both inside and outside the school, with the community playing an integral role in their education through internships and external activities.
Learning within Advisory Support In groups of no more than eight students, each assigned an Advisory teacher, they remain in the same Advisory throughout secondary education. The teacher manages learning plans, ensuring coverage of all goals and the curriculum.
Trust, Respect, and Fun A culture of trust, respect, and confidence is cultivated among students, adults, and within student interactions. Ease of interaction between students and adults is reflected both within the school and the wider community.
Everyone's a Leader Leadership is shared among the principal, staff, students, family, and community partners. Opportunities for leadership are created for everyone, focusing on personal strengths, motivations, and passions.
Families Are Enrolled, Too Real family engagement is emphasized, with parents and carers considered essential members of the learning team from the application process through to learning plan development, exhibitions, and graduation.
Creating Futures All students are expected to graduate, prepared for further learning opportunities, including university or other further education pathways.
Teachers and Leaders Are Learners, Too A culture of continuous learning is fostered. Teachers and leaders regularly explore new ideas, attend professional development, and share their learning experiences with others.
Diverse and Enduring Partnerships Strong emphasis is placed on building external partnerships with family, mentors, local councils, businesses, sports clubs, universities, colleges, and other training providers. These partnerships offer students opportunities to pursue their learning and achieve passion-led goals.
